On Sunday, March 8, 2009 firefighters from across the United States competed in the 18th Annual Scott Firefighter Stair climb. This unique race to the top of the Columbia Center, in full combat gear and SCBA, is the largest individual firefighter competition in the world.
The Scott Firefighter Stair climb supports the mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, raising money through sponsorships, individual and department fundraising, and entry fees. In 2008, the event featured over 1,311 firefighters from 225 different departments and brought in a record $530,000 for blood-cancer research and patient services.
Lacey Fire District Three was represented by FF Martin Ranney who completed the climb in 16min 58sec. Martin committed a lot of time and training for this cause and is looking for new/more ways to raise monies for this cause in 2010. If you have any suggestions or questions, please contact him. Nice work Martin and thanks for your dedication and commitment.
